Boarding at St. George’s – Germany’s first British International Boarding School

The aim of boarding at St. George’s is to provide the highest standard of educational and pastoral excellence possible for all pupils regardless of their abilities and background. We offer a safe, comfortable and stimulating environment for all pupils under our care. Our Staff have many years of boarding school experience and promote the individual as a member of a larger family.n6

Our School House is a community of pupils from diverse cultures and backgrounds who form part of the larger St. George’s community. For boarding pupils the House is their home and as such pupils are required to treat it with both respect and maturity.

Living with the pupils and their extended family is our Head of Boarding who is assisted by Matron and the Resident Staff. The residential team is supported by tutors who visit on a regular basis. The Head of Boarding works closely with our academic staff, thus ensuring that you are kept fully informed of your child’s progress.

Prospective boarding pupils and their parents are interviewed by our School Director and Head of Boarding. Pupils will be required to sit our placement tests during the interview process. Parents and pupils will also have the opportunity to meet Matron and other staff during their visit. On completion of the interview and test process a place may be offered subject to availability.

n8Boarding pupils are encouraged to develop their interests and participate in the additional activities available to our boarders` outside of the school environment; this is naturally dependent on their age and interests. All activities are reviewed and approved by the Head of Boarding. These activities form an important part of boarding life and include entertainment and cultural excursions in addition to those events on our School calendar. It should be noted that boarders are not permitted to leave the House at will and without supervision where appropriate; the well being of your child is our primary concern.

It is essential that each border provides a ‘guardian’ during their residency at the school. A guardian is considered as a person representing your child who is within contact range of our school. For many families this will be the parents themselves, whilst for pupils from distant locations the guardian should be a contact within Europe.

We cordially invite you to visit our purpose built boarding facilities in Köln where we will be able to answer any queries you may have regarding boarding at St. George’s School.

We can offer you
Full Boarding – Your child resides in School House throughout the school year including weekends.
Weekly Boarding – Your child resides in School House Monday-Friday throughout the school year and returns home on weekends.
Flexi-Boarding – Your child can reside in School House for a shorter period.

The Head of Boarding

Head of Boarding: Mrs. N. Hollow, B.A. Ed (Hons)

The Head of Boarding lives in School House and has overall responsibility for the academic, physical and social well-being of every pupil. She is an experienced teacher with proven pastoral skills and will oversee all administrative and domestic matters in the House, as well as looking after the individual needs of each pupil. She keeps in close contact with tutors, teachers and parents.

The Matron

Matron: Mrs. D. Brindle

Matron is something of a mother figure to the pupils and also lives in the House. Matron is in charge of the domestic running of the House, ensures that prompt and correct medical care is given, makes sure that all boys and girls (and their rooms!) are clean and tidy and that their laundry has been done. However, she also becomes a confidante and friend for pupils.n8

Tutors

Each pupil will have a Tutor to oversee their academic progress, and with whom pupils may discuss what else is happening in their busy lives. Pupils will meet with their Tutor at least once a week. One of the Tutors will also be Resident in the House.

Facilities

School House is very much at the centre of school life, both physically and metaphorically and is a boarder’s ‘home from home’. There they feel safe, cared for and truly at home.

Girls and boys have study bedrooms on separate floors.
